This section is for those families who have lost a twin, triplet (or other multiple) to SIDS. These families have different needs and concerns than families who have lost a singleton. Unlike singleton families, they have no time to adjust to the idea of having another baby in the home, they have a baby immediately. They are faced with the loss of the twin experience as well. People seem to think that because they have a "spare" that it doesn't hurt as bad and they are forced to fight this misconception. If you've lost one of your multiples to SIDS and would like a place to talk where you're totally understood, come in and share your story.

This section is for caregivers who have lost a child in their care to SIDS. It's a special situation and these caregivers hurt too, but often feel they don't have a "right" to grieve because they don't want to take away from what the parents are going through. This section is for Grandparents who have lost a grandchild to SIDS. Many may not realize this but Grandparents suffer doubly. They grieve the death of their grandchild, and they also mourn the fact that they cannot fix this for their child and it pains them so much to see their own child in so much pain when they're helpless to "fix" things like they always could with other things. A Kiss and a Bandage won't work to fix this kind of heart break and it hurts the Grandparents so very much. They will often keep this to themselves though to spare adding a further burden to their child, but it doesn't mean they hurt less. If you are a Grandparent who has lost a grandchild to SIDS and would like to communicate with other Grandparents in the same situation, please come in and introduce yourself.

This section is for families who have lost an older baby to SIDS (SUDS, SUDC whatever term they used to mean "a sudden death"). Typically a SIDS diagnosis includes children who die before the age of one, but older babies/children can die in the same manner and often there's little support available to them. This section is specifically for those families.

This section is for parents who are/were teens when they had and lost their baby. Young parents are more often mistreated by the police, more frequently blamed for the baby's death, and likely hear the phrase, "You're young, you can have more," as though the baby were a goldfish easily replaced by a trip to the pet store. This section is just for young parents to come together and lean on one another to get stronger and heal.

It's such a tragedy to lose a child to SIDS, and while it's unthinkable that a parent could go through that agony again, it does happen. Sometimes parents lose a second child to another cause, sometimes they lost a child first to another cause and then lost a subsequent child to SIDS. This section is for those SIDS families who have suffered more than one child's death. A SIDS mom I know, her husband had lost 3 sons to various reasons with his first wife and so she asked him about it and he said that the first is the worst, that it can't possibly get worse than that - but - you go through the same thing all over again with each death. Hopefully through this section those families who are grieving more than most can come together and be strengthened through fellowship with other families in the same situation.

Although the vast majority of visitors to SIDS Families are from Australia, Canada or the USA, there are visitors from other places in the world too! Do you have a good shoulder? Do people think you're a good listener? Perhaps you're a whiz with building home pages or you have a special talent for graphic design? Maybe your talent is writing poetry. If you're willing to do any of these sorts of things for other families who have lost a baby to SIDS please leave your information in the forum.

I ask that you only leave your information if you provide your service for nothing, doing it solely out of the goodness of your heart. I would appreciate having volunteers available for the following areas:

• Being a pen-pal via email.
• Chatting in the chat room.
• Building (or helping to build) home pages for others.
• Designing special graphics (perhaps taking a baby's picture and graphically adding angel wings, a snow-globe, or a special glow or halo, making customized web page graphics etc.)
• Writing a special poem for a family

Something else that I think would be nice as well, (but you don't need to leave your information), would be to send a note to the families who are going through either a birthday or angel day. There's a calendar in Heaven's Nursery and if you were able to send a note or a card, or on these special days you could light a candle for their babies, say a prayer for them or send them a note to let them know they're in your thoughts, that would be very sweet.
