There's Jacob over in the sand pit... building some great and
wonderful castle... frowning as his chubby hands pat this spot or that
spot... making little roads for his little cars... looking up and
sneezing in the sunlight... he smiles and gets up to go jump in some
mudpuddles spashing muddy water everywhere.. the other kids complain so
instead he puts his arms out wide and starts running around trying to
take flight like he's seen so many angels do... a big contented smile on
his face...

Here is the door I built for the angel room. It is solid pine with
a light oak stain. The lighter panels are actually tempered glass so that
we can peek in on our babies without disturbing them. I have ordered a
beautiful gold plague for the door nameplate but it hasn't arrived yet. For
now I have just painted it on and can stain over it once the plague arrives.

Off I go to install the door and then back to the shop for more work.

Visiting the Angel Room

One day in our castle, oh so grand,
As I was walking down the hall,
I saw something I had not seen before,
A rather majestic door in the wall.

Behind this door must be something special,
So I wandered over to take a peek,
And what I saw was a sight to behold,
These wondrous things of which I speak!

The room was filled with such a glow
That I found I had to go in
To discover the source of this brightness,
And what did I find? Oh, where do I begin?!

No matter where I looked,
There were angels all around.
Some were flying here and there,
While others were on the ground.

As I entered the Angel Room,
All the sweet smiles made my heart go weak,
And I had to stop to pat precious little heads,
And to stroke many a soft little cheek.

The littlest ones first caught my eye,
Each trying to crawl or walk,
Playing a game of peek-a-boo,
And saying "ma-ma" in their sweet baby talk.

There was Darious and Baby Robert
Two sweet boys, as their mommies surely know.
And, look, it's little Rose June,
Her hair adorned with a fancy pink bow.

Oh, there's Andrew, my sweet Andrew,
His bright eyes dancing with glee!
These smallest ones stole my heart,
But there was even more to see.

I saw Brandon, Dusten and Jack
Drinking juice, each from his own special cup
While Tristan and Joey were climbing all over,
Trying to go up and up and up!

Over in the corner, Kody and Keston were sitting
And playing with blocks and stacking rings,
While beside them sat little Hannah,
Hugging a stuffed teddy bear that sings.

Next, I saw the toddler crowd,
Happily racing all around.
But they didn't run, for you see,
With their wings, no feet need touch the ground.

The boys were playing tag that day—
Gabriel, Jordan and Wyatt did flit,
Dodging and darting about the room,
Trying to avoid Jacob, who was "It."

By a table set with dainty little dishes,
Kelsey and Brianna were found,
Holding on to frilly dollies,
Twirling round and round.

Across the room and by the shelves,
Amber and Riley gazed at picture books,
Looking up every now and then
To exchange children's silly looks.

Joshua and J.R. played with cars
In the center of the room,
Oblivious to all around them,
They were going zoom, zoom, ZOOM!

I quickly stepped out of the way
As Christopher soared past,
Showing off on his rollerblades
And having quite a blast.

And then I saw sweet Sheyenne,
The oldest angel of this throng.
She would rock and comfort the smallest babes,
As she sang them all a heavenly song.

And as I sat and took my Andrew
In my arms and placed him on my knee,
I couldn't help but think that
This room was such a special place to be.

To see all our precious angels,
To see all the happiness and the joys,
To see the world through the eyes
Of all our treasured girls and boys.

I knew I would come back to this room
To see what I might find,
To spend some time with our angels—
Even if it's only in my mind.

Christmas Eve in the Angel Room

`Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the room
Not an angel did stir, for Santa's visit did loom.
Their stockings were hung on the mantle with care,
Dreaming of the goodies they hoped to find there.

The babies were nestled, all snug in their cribs.
There's Baby Robert and Caillou still wearing their bibs!
Andrew and Darious giggle in their sleep,
While Rose slumbers sweetly, not making a peep.

When from the corner of the room, there arose such a clatter—
The sound of little ones' feet going pitter-patter!
Chance and Riley and Amber—those three—
Were sneaking a look at presents under the tree!

Others looked out the window at the new-fallen snow.
There's Salem and Kelsey hoping to hear Santa's "Ho! Ho! Ho!"
When, what to my wandering gaze should appear,
But ten pairs of eyes, sparkling with cheer.

These little ones so precious and dear
Toddling around, going there and then here.
Each one so special, none just the same,
And as I saw them, I called them by name.

There's Joey and Brandon and Kayla, I spy,
And Dusten and Georgia and Tristan, oh my!
Keston and Kody and Carlie are here, too,
And little Miss Hannah with her doll dressed in blue.

And then, like a Texas tornado blows by,
JR and Jordan on their angel wings fly,
Being chased by Joshua intent on his quest—
These rowdy boys are too excited to rest!

And, then, in a twinkling, like a burst of a star
A presence was there, but not Santa, by far.
No red suit or reindeer were to be found;
The angels watched in wonder, making no sound.

His garment of white was a sight to behold,
And a light shone around Him with an aura of gold.
He had no toys for the angels that night,
Just the gift of His love, wrapped in goodness and light.

His eyes were so gentle, and His smile, so kind;
Gabriel and Aaron tugged at His hands, but He didn't mind.
Brianna, Wyatt, Jordan and Joshua sat at His feet,
Each of these little ones, He did tenderly greet.

The two Jacobs, He sat on His lap,
And to His delight, they started to clap.
The rest of the angels then gathered round,
And praised this blessed One—what a heavenly sound!

Sheyenne led the little ones in song,
Playing the piano to help them along.
Then, He told a story about the great love
That is given to all from the Father above.

He also told of the precious gift of their birth
And of the time they had on the Earth;
For they gave their mommies and daddies such joy,
Each and every special angel girl and boy.

The time He spent in the room, it did fly,
And before they knew it, He had to say good-bye.
He circled each angel in a warm embrace,
And held them close, as they kissed His face.

Though no toys were given, His gift was much treasured,
The love that He gives on no scale can be measured.
"The Magic of Christmas," He said, as He turned to leave,
"Can be found in your heart, if you'll only believe."

*tippy-toeing into the Angel room, sitting in the corner, my entrance
to the room unnoticed by the busy little children playing in the
room. Some are painting rainbows, some reading books, some pretending
to be angels, others picking flowers into beautiful heavenly
bouquets.

Two are dancing about in the middle of the room to a tune only they can
hear, while others look on, some with a silly grin, others with
tenderness in their eyes, they silently watch the two dancers make their
clumsy way about the room, giggling and trying to act like mommy
and daddy as they dance.

Another is in the corner, pointing his finger at some others, telling them
this is this and that is that, scolding them, the whole while
the others look at him, in mock resignation, a playful light in their eyes
as they all tackle the little finger pointer, taking him to the
ground in a flurry of tickles and giggles.

Children toddling, dancing, finger painting on the walls, all of them so
peaceful with smiles that practically glow on their chubby little
faces, rosey little cheeks, sparkling little eyes.

sitting in the corner of the room, one small child walks over, a brown
eyed brown haired little boy, with a most serious look about him,
he takes my hand in his and asks do I never play. Feeling rather silly
I explain that I am no longer a child, and that I no longer play.
His eyes grow slightly sad for a moment, then he takes my hand and whisks
me off to the center of the room where at least a dozen children
jump on me at once, tickling me, their chubby little fingers working their
way expertly between my ribs, causing me to laugh aloud, unable
to stop, laughing until my sides and my cheeks hurt.

Little child princesses come with their pretty crowns and make up, combing
my hair this way and that until they decide I'm as pretty as a
princess.. I can only imagine how I really look.. but if they say I'm as
pretty as a princess I must be.

One of them brings a book to me to read, and we all sit down on the floor
together, piled on pillows with blankets to cuddle with, we sit
and read a wonderful story of a place nobody ever has to leave, where
people are healthy and young, where no monsters lurk in the shadows
of the night to prey on the helpless and the innocent.

We all begin to yawn and stretch, I put the book down, and we all drift
off to sleep.. it's naptime.*
